Conclusion
In every class for my Post-Master’s in Digital Curation, I have found opportunities to substantively apply my coursework in my role as a digital archivist at a classified library. It’s a new organization with an old, complex collection and unique governance needs. But studying digital curation has given me the tools for managing the challenges of developing a trusted digital repository. In the last year, my certificate work has prepared me to
research and select a digital asset management system,
prepare and digitize collections,
develop a metadata model for cataloging photographic collections,
manage file format issues,
update file preservation grade standards,
recognize and advise on governance and access issues and risks,
develop ingest and preservation workflows, and
manage photographic collections, both physical and digital.
Professional development is never done, but the Post-Master’s in Digital Curation has given me a strong foundation on which to contribute to the continued preservation and access of digital archives.
